On 16 July 1969, the Saturn V rocket blasted off taking Apollo 11 to land human on the Moon, one giant leap in the Space Race. On 17 July 1975 Astronaut Thomas P. Stafford and cosmonaut Aleksei A. Leonov made a historic handshake in space as part of the first docking of the Apollo and Soyuz spacecrafts, seen by many as the end of the Space Race

Join the National Space Centre online to discover more about the Space Race, with live lessons, videos, craft workshops and downloadable content to support at home learning.

Some highlights include:

· Discover the history of the Space Race with Claire
· Learn about how Britain was involved in the Space Race
· Thanks to our volunteer Hayley we have this week’s Tour of the Night Sky on Friday
· Learn to make Moon Rocks
· Papercraft your very own Apollo Soyuz handshake

 

Family Movie Night

On Friday 17 July take a seat for the launch of our very latest award-winning planetarium show for #FamilyMovieNight – CAPCOM GO! available for two weeks, complete with a watch-a-long competition to win a family Annual Pass to use when the Centre reopens on 01 August.
