Suitable for everyone over 14yrs! a wide variety of work throughout the year varying from path constructions, heathland clearance, log splitting, Coppicing and charcoal making.

Price: £0.00 (Adults £0.00 / Children £0.00 )

Volunteers are welcome from the age of 14 to 100! We regularly have Duke of Edinburgh scheme members helping for their volunteering aspect of their award. Otherwise we are a mixed bunch of ages, backgrounds, and hairstyles but all with a passion to conserve Rowhill Nature Reserve.

We undertake a wide variety of work throughout the year varying from path constructions, heathland clearance, log splitting, Coppicing in the winter months and even charcoal making! Rowhill has a long standing history of being a working woodland and we try to incorporate some of these traditional crafts in to our conservation sessions as best we can.

The Reserve can have some quite challenging terrain depending on where we are working. Please bring hiking/stout boots (steel toecaps are ideal but not essential) to protect your ankles. Wellies are acceptable. Trainers really aren’t fit for purpose. Please wear long trousers to protect legs and bring full waterproofs if there is a chance of rain!

We meet on the 1st, 3rd and if there is one 5th Sunday of every month.

Sessions start at 09.45 with the Safety briefing at 10.00. This is normally at the Volunteers hut near the Field Centre in Cranmore Lane, although sometimes elsewhere in the Reserve (location displayed with task leader contact details on chalkboard by door).

The session finishes at around 15.30. There is no need to stay all day some people only do the morning but any help is appreciated!

Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided for volunteers, but please bring lunch if you are planning to stay all day. NOTE THAT DUE TO COVID19 RESTRICTIONS WE CANNOT PROVIDE THIS AT THE CURRENT TIME. PLEASE BRING ALL YOUR OWN DRINKS AND FOOD WITH YOU.

Please email ahead if you wish to attend a session to the below email so the task leader can let you know of any special circumstances for the next session.
