An opportunity to see some of the insects that make heathland such a special habitat. The Horsell Common Sand Pit is a hot spot for solitary bees and wasps, including the Bee Wolf and the Green-eyed Flower Bee.
The Sand Pit, famous as the landing site of the Martian invasion in H G Wells’s War of the Worlds, is now home to 1000s of Bee Wolves! The shallow bowl makes it a very special habitat for these and other amazing creatures.
Leisurely walk lead by entomologist and Horsell Common Preservation Society trustee, Andrew Halstead.
FIND US: This will be short walks leading from a pop-up location at 10am, 11am, 12pm or 1pm for 45 minutes each. Parking at Six Cross roads car park at Horsell Common. W3W location sandpits crush.tens.slip
