Bat Walk at Winkworth in Godalming
Witness the twilight world of Winkworth's bats! Meet your expert guide at the entrance 20 minutes before sunset for a brief yet fascinating presentation on the arboretum's ideal bat habitats. Then, experience the thrill of using bat boxes and echo detectors to listen for these nocturnal creatures. Winkworth's blend of woodlands and open meadows creates a haven for diverse bat species, including pipistrelles and the magnificent greater horseshoe bat. This 1.5-hour guided walk commences at sunset. Please meet us at the entrance 20 minutes beforehand. Upon arrival, a member of our team in the car park will guide you to a parking space. Kindly refrain from parking on the road or blocking the entrance.

Great for families
This is a great place for long walks with the family. The steep climbs mean it is not recommended for bikes.
The trees are lovely and the cafe serves a lovely lunch.
What to wear?
Outdoor clothing and sensible footwear appropriate for the weather. Ski suits are really good for children when taking part in autumn and winter outdoor activities as they keep the child snug and offer brilliant protection when splashing in puddles :) We have ones similar to this.
There are so many trees in the Arboretum, why not make a little educational trip. get your little ones a book or worksheet and help them identify the trees you find.
The open areas lend themselves to a bit of bird watching. This kit contains everything you need to take your family bird watching, including bird identifcation cards and binoculars.
There are also some lovely nature trails. Allowing your little ones to go bug hunting under logs and in the leaves.
