An introduction to the basics of sailing! On completion of the syllabus, you will receive a certificate and can progress to stage 2.

Course runs from 8:30am – 16:30pm (please arrive 10mins early so children can get ready).
“Afters Club”- from 16:30-17:30, no need to rush to get them after the course ends (note the activity finish at 16:30 and children will need time to change).
2 DAY Course from 8.00am to 4pm
Bring your lunch, snacks, water, Towel and Wet Shoes, and change of clothes.

The RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stages 1-4 are for those aged 8 – 16 years old to progress through their sailing journey from complete beginner to competent sailor.
Sailors are taught in a range of dinghies specific to their needs and course syllabus.
The 16 hour long course over 2 days in a small group of up to 6 participants. This is the best way to learn how to sail in a safe and fun environment whilst offering professional instruction.
If you are late for your session you will be allowed on site but you will only be on the water for the remainder of your booked time slot, you will not receive a refund.
All equipment will be supplied including wetsuits and buoyancy aids. All kit will be thoroughly cleaned in between use.
Each session will have a maximum of 6 participants at a time to make social distancing more manageable.
The building, changing and toilet facilities will be open in a limited capacity. If you can arrive ready to go on the water that would be appreciated and will speed up changing times.
RYA Youth Stage 1
No prior sailing experience necessary, the two-day course will include Launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing. After the course, the sailor should be able to steer and understand basic principles.
Prior experience should be an RYA Youth Stage 1 or equivalent knowledge, the two-day course will include basic sailing skills, ropework, collision avoidance. After the course, the sailor should be able to tack and control boat speed and understand basic principles.
Prior experience should be an RYA Youth Stage 2 or equivalent knowledge, the two-day course will include rigging, launching, and recovery, sailing techniques, capsize recovery, sailing theory. After the course, the sailor should be able to launch and sail a dinghy around a triangle in moderate conditions.
Prior experience should be an RYA Youth Stage 3 or equivalent knowledge, the two-day course will include rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques and maneuvers in crewed boats, recovering a man overboard. After the course, the sailor should be able to launch and return to a beach, jetty, or mooring, and sail a crewed dinghy around a triangle in moderate conditions.
Kit list for all courses
Closed-toe shoes (old trainers are fine however there are a small selection of wet shoes available to buy in the centre for £6.50)
Swimwear (to wear under a wetsuit which we will provide or bring your own!)
Towel and a warm dry change of clothes (for after)
RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Logbook (this will have been issued on the RYA Stage 1 course)

Children between the age of 8-16yrs are allowed as long as they are accompanied by an adult on the water at all times. This can be on the same craft or separate craft if you have more than one. Maximum of 3 children 8-16 to one guardian over 18.
Children under 8 are exempt from purchasing a separate ticket, they must go on the same craft as a guardian over 18. Maximum of 1 child under 8 to 1 guardian over 18.
If you have a child between the ages of 8 and 14 years old who are looking for a great day out, full of fun and excitement this is the place to be. It is also a great opportunity for them to try a new sport for the first time! Max of 12 children per bubble for social distancing
The sessions are perfect for children to come along and make new friends and enjoy new experiences in a range of activities available here at Horseshoe Lake.
The children will do a range of activities during the day which could include any combination of the following;
