2023 sees the return of Romany day to the Rural life Living Museum. Join us for this favourite cultural event and explore the past and present of Romany culture, heritage and tradition. This event is produced in partnership with the Surrey Romany Gypsy Forum.
Our Romany vardos and bender tent will be open to the public to go inside and experience the most compact of living spaces. Watch demonstrations and take part in activities from Jig Dolls with traditional music through to paper and wood flower making, peg and basket making. Experience the expression of Romany heritage through music, dance and language, including a poetry slam. We hope to be able to bring film to the event in our village hall to show Romany life past and present.
Don’t forget to bring a picnic to enjoy, pick a spot within our ten acre site to sit and soak up the atmosphere, or sample the delights of the Market Garden Café, with the best coffee in Surrey, our famous sausage rolls alongside a full menu of hot and cold food and of course sweet treats!
