Whether you have questions about feeding, need some practical help with your newborn or simply want a listening ear over a cup of tea, these personalised support visits are tailored to you and your family's needs.
How can postnatal support help?
Support visits can include:
- Feeding support – help with breastfeeding, bottle feeding and any feeding questions or challenges.
- Newborn care advice – practical guidance to help you feel more confident caring for your baby.
- Emotional support – a friendly, non-judgemental listening ear to talk through how you're feeling.
- Support for partners and family – helping those closest to you understand how they can support you and your baby.
- Baby sleep advice – guidance on your baby's sleep and ways to optimise their sleep environment and routines.
- Relaxation techniques – simple techniques to help new parents find moments of calm.
- Practical help – holding or wearing your baby while you have a shower, get some fresh air or take a little time for yourself.
- Further professional support – signposting to relevant healthcare professionals when needed.

Every family and every baby is different. These one-to-one visits provide space to ask questions, talk through concerns and get practical support tailored to your circumstances, without feeling that you have to manage everything alone.

The Village Midwife | Antenatal & Postnatal Support in Basingstoke and North Hampshire
Preparing to welcome your baby? The Village Midwife offers friendly, honest and supportive antenatal education and postnatal care for expectant and new parents in Basingstoke and North Hampshire.
Led by an experienced midwife, the antenatal courses help you understand your choices during pregnancy, labour, birth and early parenthood, so you can feel more informed and confident as you prepare to meet your baby.
Antenatal Courses
The Village Midwife runs small-group antenatal courses combining practical information, friendly guidance and the opportunity to meet other local parents who are expecting around the same time.
Courses include four face-to-face sessions on Saturday mornings, plus an additional online session. Topics cover the choices available to you during pregnancy and labour, preparing for birth and becoming a new parent.
As well as learning from a midwife, you'll have the opportunity to build friendships with other local families who are at a similar stage of their journey.
Location: The Barn, Rose Cottage, Hannington, RG26 5TX.
Postnatal Support
Support doesn't stop when your baby arrives. The Village Midwife also offers one-to-one postnatal support visits, providing personalised support for new parents during the early weeks with their baby.
Women who attend the antenatal course can also access a new mums' support and postnatal course, running on Mondays from 10:30am to 12 noon. It's an opportunity to connect with other new mums and receive support as you navigate life with your baby.
