Preparing to welcome your baby? Join The Village Midwife for a friendly, comprehensive antenatal course in Hannington, designed to help you feel informed, prepared and supported throughout pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.

Led by a midwife, this four-session antenatal course explores your birth choices, practical techniques for labour, caring for your newborn and preparing for life after birth. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions, understand your options and connect with other local parents who are preparing to meet their babies.

What does the antenatal course cover?

Birth choices and preparation

• What to expect during vaginal, assisted and caesarean births.
• Preparing for birth and writing birth preferences for different eventualities.
• Understanding the choices you may encounter during pregnancy and labour.

Labour comfort and active birth

• Ways to make labour more comfortable.
• Active birth positions and techniques to help balance your pelvis and encourage your baby into an optimal position.
• Practical approaches to making the final stages of pregnancy and labour more comfortable.

The birth partner's role

• How birth partners can provide practical and emotional support during labour.
• Supporting mum during the postnatal period.

Recovery and postnatal preparation

• What to expect during recovery after vaginal and caesarean births.
• Preparing for the early weeks with your baby.
• Creating a postnatal plan to help you feel more prepared.

Feeding your baby

• Establishing breastfeeding and understanding common challenges.
• Formula feeding and bottle-feeding techniques.
• Expressing breast milk and exploring different feeding options.

Ongoing support from a midwife

One of the benefits of The Village Midwife course is the opportunity to receive ongoing support from a midwife as you prepare for your baby's arrival and navigate early parenthood.

You'll also have the chance to meet other local expectant parents and build friendships with families going through a similar experience.

Course details

📅 Upcoming courses: November–December 2026, January–February 2027, April–May 2027 and June–July 2027.

⏰ Four face-to-face sessions: Saturday mornings, 9:30am–12:30pm, plus an additional online session (date to be confirmed).

💷 Cost: £260 per course.
